The goal of the two-year residency in Pharmacy Informatics is to offer training and education for pharmacists interested in pharmacy informatics and providing safe medication use through clinical information systems and automation; and to prepare candidates for pharmacy informatics positions in the health informatics sector.
Program Overview The resident develops competencies and skills in the general areas of pharmacy practice according to the ASHP PGY1 goals and objectives, including pharmacy practice and management, clinical rotations, drug information, patient care, and an emphasis in pharmacy informatics in the PGY1 year. The PGY2 year focuses on applying pharmacy informatics principles and best practices across all health information systems and technologies available in Lifepoint Health® facilities. In addition, the resident will gain experience in areas such as medication management, leadership development, project management, clinical decision support, and data management. Lifepoint Health® has partnered with Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences for this unique program. Lipscomb University College of Pharmacy offers optional elective opportunities to teach and precept students, a teaching and learning certificate, a certificate of advanced study in Health Care Informatics, and/or a Master of Science in Health Care Informatics.
The primary practice site for this two-year residency is at Lifepoint Health® Headquarters, although much of the PGY1 year is spend in a clinical setting at Sumner Regional Health.
